I am so excited because there will be a big playground and new bleachers!
Your gift will give children of KCS and the Kingsway community:
Two new playground structures designed with all our students in mind: one structure for older children and one for the youngest
An outdoor classroom to take learning into nature
Updated landscaping to create a tranquil green space in the heart of the Kingsway
A walking loop surrounding the perimeter of the park as a dedicated jogging space and a marked route for KCS athletics teams to practice
A drinking fountain to maintain hydration during athletic events
A new irrigation system for the field so students can get outside and be active all year round
Updated field irrigation will ensure our students and community members have full use of the field all year round.
Currently, the field doesn’t drain properly with excessive rain or snow, which causes the field to become a muddy puddle or a sheet of ice. To address this problem, we will:
Remove two feet of soil from the current field and replace it with better draining soil and sub-drains under the field area
Artificial swales will be added around the field to manage water runoff and increase rainwater infiltration
The field will be re-graded to best direct drainage to the swales
Holding tanks will be added underground near Canterbury Drive to hold water runoff and allow it to infiltrate into the subsoils keeping the top of the field from pooling with water
A new playground to spark imagination.
Currently, the playground is outdated and doesn’t offer enough variety or challenge for children.
To address this problem, we will:
Design and create play equipment that offers high play value for different ages and abilities
Create a space where wooden play features blend into the landscape setting integrating play with seating, learning and exploring
The playground will be retained by tiered armour-stone, levelling the play surface and creating a seating area facing the field
A play tower will be installed with a variety of entrances and exit features
Wooden climbing structures offer a challenge for different ages and abilities
Swings and spinner equipment will be installed to create moving play equipment
CONSTRUCTION WILL TAKE PLACE SUMMER 2019 FOR COMPLETION BY LABOUR DAY 2019
