French at KCS

Bonjour tout le monde!

At KCS, students begin studying French in Pre-Kindergarten and graduate in grade 8 with a solid foundation for future French studies.

In grades 1 to 5, we have had terrific success using the Accelerated Integrative Method (AIM). This program uses hand gestures associated with words. It is a powerful combination of oral, auditory, kinesthetic and visual learning that culminates in full class drama performances.

In grades 6 to 8, students develop their French skills using creative projects, performances, and presentations. Daily emphasis is placed on active participation exclusively in French to enhance students’ abilities to read, write, listen, and speak confidently.

Technology is incorporated whenever possible to provide an engaging 21st century French language learning experience. Our main goals are to prepare students for future French studies and to instill a love of, and appreciation for, languages that will last throughout their lives.

“Thank you for preparing these boys so well. We have just gone through our first set of parent interviews, and I want to convey to you what I have said to your former students and their parents. I am so impressed with the level of French of the boys coming from KCS who are currently in our grade 7 and 8 classes. They are terrific young men who have adapted very well at RSGC. They are able to converse in French on a wide variety of topics, they are able to apply their knowledge to their written and oral work, and they are enthusiastic and engaged in class. I very much want to compliment you on your French programme…”
