We are very excited to announce the arrival of a new opportunity for aspiring authors at KCS. Young Authors of KCS (YAKCS) has been designed for ambitious student authors in grades 4 to 8. As we tip our hat to passion-based learning, KCS is set to inspire, support and officially publish the work of students who love to write and feel they are up to the challenge of completing a written work.

Here is what we are offering each Young Author through YAKCS:
  • Biannual writing workshops held with accomplished author, Shane Peacock
  • The ability for the Young Author to choose the genre in which they will write (fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, picture storybooks…)
  • The opportunity for the Young Author to extend an invitation to an interested student illustrator to join in the creation of the book
  • On completion of the lengthy process of writing, editing and revising their book, the Young Author will have the exceptional opportunity of receiving direct feedback on their manuscript from author Hélène Boudreau.
  • On the culmination of a finished and polished manuscript, KCS will make arrangements and pay for the book to be officially published. One copy will be kept in the KCS library and three copies will be given to the Young Author. Additional copies will be available for be purchase by the Young Author’s family.
  • As with all published books, the book will be given an official ISBN and will be registered in the National Library and Archives of Canada.
  • At the end of the program KCS will host a book launch where our very own Young Author will share their written creation with our students and the broader community.
