We are very pleased to announce that Craig Harris is joining KCS as our founding grade 9 science teacher. Craig brings a wealth of experience to KCS, in science and beyond. As such, in addition to founding grade 9 science teacher, he will also be our founding teacher in Integrated Arts and Exploring Communications Technology, working with Learning Partners
in these courses so our students have instruction in an array of artistic genres, visual and performance, as well as an array of communications technologies.
Craig has a B.Sc. in Geological Engineering – Applied Geophysics as well as a B.Sc. in Biology from Queen’s University. After working multiple years as an engineer, including as a geophysicist in Northern Finland and as a geotechnical consultant on the Toronto-York Spadina subway extension, Craig returned to school to earn a Master of Business Administration at the Schulich School of Business at York University. While serving as a Senior Associate in Equity Research for BMP Capital Markets, Craig was pulled toward the teaching profession thanks to his years of experience as a counsellor, supervisor, and Leadership Course Director at Camp Tawingo in Huntsville, Ontario. He returned to Queen’s to earn his B. Ed. and is currently at Greenwood College School teaching secondary math, general science, and senior biology. A dedicated lifelong learner, he continues to take advanced university science courses to further broaden his knowledge.
A passionate musician, Craig is lead vocalist, guitar, and songwriter in the folk-rock band Steed
. Craig also manages the band’s web presence and is leading the production of their album. Leveraging his video production expertise, Craig recently created the YouTube channel Science with Mr. Harris
and has been posting videos since the start of the pandemic, explaining everything from the phases of the moon to what’s in the COVID vaccine.
Craig’s additional interests include camping and canoe trips in Canada and abroad, and have led to experiences such as a 3-month white-water paddling guiding course on rivers in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Personal and professional travel have taken him to 16 countries and four continents. And his affinity for business continues with expressed interest in leading an Investment Club as part of his role.
Craig’s commitment to realizing the potential in youth, his entrepreneurial mindset, his passion for science, music, and the outdoors, and his drive to endlessly learn and develop new skills led to his interest in joining KCS and joining us as a founding member of our Senior School staff. We’re excited by all he brings and look forward to the collaboration and interdisciplinary possibilities for us all next year.
