Announcing Rick Kunc as KCS Assistant Head of Senior School
KCS is very pleased to announce that Rick Kunc is joining us as Assistant Head of Senior School. Rick is an educational leader committed to student excellence, voice and well-being, and the curriculum innovation that those objectives entail. He is excited to join KCS for the distinct vision and opportunity presented by the launch of our KCS Senior School.
Rick brings over 25 years of leadership experience in secondary education from public, private and independent schools in Ontario. A strategic thinker with extensive experience in change management, Rick’s background includes the founding of a new and innovative secondary school for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board that supported student-driven, flexible learning, and resulted in an enrolment increase of 40%. At Hillfield-Strathallan College, as both Principal of the Senior School and as Deputy Head – Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, Rick guided faculty and senior leadership in creating and embracing research-based practices to support a deep learning and action-oriented culture. Most recently, Rick has had the distinct opportunity to lead the academic growth of The Hill Academy, a school devoted to supporting students with a notable passion and commitment to athletics. Rick is also serving as a Session Instructor at the Brock University Faculty of Education, teaching a course in Grade 8-9 Transitions as well as Professionalism, Law and the Educator. Rick is also serving as a Practicum Advisor for teacher candidates.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Physical Education (honours), a Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Senior), and additional certification in guidance, Principal’s Qualification, and Supervisory Officers Qualification. Rick also earned the CAIS Leadership Institute Diploma in 2018 and regularly embraces the many conferences and additional learning opportunities available to lifelong learners. Currently he’s working toward a certificate in Leadership, Diversity, and Inclusion. And he recently started learning to play guitar!
Rick is a proud father of four and husband to Jackie. When work and family responsibilities allow, Rick’s additional interests have led to years of community service, including serving as an executive member of the Dundas Tennis Club, coach for various soccer and hockey leagues, and as a volunteer statistician for Toronto Rock Lacrosse. Rick has always valued how community connections make a difference and is pleased to play a role in building the community of KCS Learning Partners and connecting them with students.
