The KCS Library

Silver Birch Express 2016

It’s been a very busy two months of reading for students in grades 3 and 4! In only TWO months they read a total of 1,045 books as part of the Silver Birch Express Reading Program. This is a province wide program that schools and public libraries across Ontario participate in each year, with the purpose of introducing students to current Canadian authors.

It was thrilling for Mrs. Hoggarth and Ms. Cutting to watch our Silver Birch Tree grow every week, when students added leaves to the tree for every book they read. By the end of the program Ms. Cutting had to stand on a ladder just to reach the top most part of the tree!
Our annual Silver Birch Express Celebration, which was held on March 8, 2016, was a great way to cap off all our students’ hard work. It’s where we crown the winning book, as voted by KCS students (this year it was: The Magical Animal Adoption Agency: Clover’s Luck), and where we crown the winners of our costume and poster contests.
