Please describe something unique about your educational background or career related experience.
A common thread in my education, personal learning and career is a driving interest in different perspectives. Through my summer with a Quebecois family, an undergraduate degree in psychology and French, living in France and Japan, travelling throughout Europe (including Eastern Europe and the USSR pre-glasnost), teaching in a Montessori school, ongoing professional learning, and various other pursuits, I’ve always welcomed the surprise that follows seeing the world from the eyes of others. I find much learning value in these surprises, whether inspiring, curious, or cautionary, and strive to bring that learning to my role at KCS.
I love teaching because...
Of the meaningful difference it makes and because of the rewarding relationships it includes.
What are you most passionate about professionally and personally?
I am most passionate about helping the profession reach its potential, so all students enjoy the complete and optimal education they deserve. This is also my personal passion. I see great possibilities for individuals and society if our profession becomes all it can be.
Which of the Habits of Mind, Body and Action do you most align with and why?
I would choose
persist because it's the one that most inspires me, because it inherently includes many of the other Habits, and because it's the one that most aligns with making a difference.
What is your favourite quote?
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
What do you like to do in your spare time when you are not teaching?
When not at KCS, I enjoy reading, learning (mainly about education…), walking in this wonderful city, travelling, and being with family and friends. In the warmer months, I enjoy gardening, until I reach the point where I just want to enjoy the garden.
