  • School Nurse

    You’ll want to work with us at KCS if you’re driven to help create the next generation of inspired citizen leaders.     You will report to the Head of School and work closely with the Director of Admissions and Operations and the Director of Student and Community Well-Being.
    This is a permanent, 5 day per week position. KCS offers an excellent compensation package upon hire. Start date: August 24, 2020.

    1. Support delivery of programs to promote student health and well-being
    2. Support implementation and review of COVID-19 infection prevention and control protocols
    3. Provide health care and first aid to students and staff, as needed, and oversee medication administration
    4. Support the day-to-day operations of KCS
    5. Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the health room by ensuring there is a stock of supplies and also maintaining first aid supplies/defibrillators
    6. Communicate regularly with parents, staff (teaching and non-teaching), students and outside agencies (e.g., Toronto Public Health) regarding health and safety issues
    7. Assist with and follow up on student and staff accidents, injuries, and emergencies
    8. Oversee the prevalent medical condition plans and medications for students (e.g., anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy)
    9. Meet with parents and homeform teachers to develop Individualized Response Plans for students who have been injured or have medical needs that will affect their day-to-day routines at school; share this information with relevant faculty and staff
    10. Meet with staff members to develop Individualized Response Plans for themselves if they have been injured or have medical needs that will affect their day-to-day routines at school; share this information with relevant faculty and staff as required
    11. Ensure that all medical information for students and staff is updated regularly and shared when needed
    12. Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, oversee some aspects of infection control measures, and coordinate first aid training for staff members
    13. Coordinate immunization clinics
    14. Work according to the standards in the KCS Habits of Mind, Body and Action
    15. Support some school-wide events, where applicable, and serve as a consultant for other school professionals to help optimize health and safety
    16. Engage in ongoing professional learning, and share that learning, to support achievement of the mission
    17. Support the Director of Admissions and Operations in the development and review of health and safety plans and policies.
    18. Sit as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
    19. Sit as a member of the Emergency Response team
    20. Attend student concern meetings, as required
    21. Ability to work in a manner that ensures best practices in confidentiality standards
    • Current Certificate of Competence as a registered nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an RN
    • Experience working with children and youth is an asset
    • Current First Aid and CPR certification
    • Knowledge of all relevant legislation and regulations and ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements
    • Ability to apply regulations and professional practice standards to own work
    • Experience with concussion management is an asset
    • Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset
    • Demonstrated ability to assist students, staff, and other members of the KCS community with concern and empathy, respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner
    • Self-directed and comfortable exercising discretion and independent judgement in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong in critical thinking, problem identification, problem solving, initiative, adaptability, communication skills, and attention to detail
    • Genuine care for students and staff and their well-being
    • Enthusiasm and passion for their work and for the KCS mission and vision

Ms. Gaudet, Grade 7 Teacher

If you walked around the school at this very moment, you’d see: grade 5 students heading to an overnight trip to Norval Outdoor Education Centre, the grade 1 coffee house presentation, SK students playing on the outdoor playground, parents and students buying books at the book fair, and grade 7 students participating in their annual robotics competition.
